A small circuit idea on laser communication using, laser diode at the output of a single stage amp and a photo diode at the input of a single stage amp with a speaker output. Keep both the circuit at a distance only keep a track that the laser light falls on the photo diode. To get best result you can also use audio amp circuits on both the ends.
